           中辐院设有辐射防护及环境保护、环境科学、放射医学、劳动卫生和环境卫生学硕士学位授予点。先后与国际原子能机构(IAEA)、 国际放射防护委员会(ICRP)、联合国原子辐射影响科学委员会(UNSCEAR)、世界卫生组织(WHO)以及美国、日本、法国等40多个国际组织、国家(地区)建立了科技合作与交流关系。

             China Institute for Radiation Protection (CIRP), subordinate to China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), is founded in 1962 and located in Taiyuan, with a land area of about 480 000 square meters and building area of 234 000 square meters and neighbored on the west by Taiyuan National High-tech Park beautified with the pleasant environment. The CIRP, serving as comprehensive research establishment solely dedicated to radiation protection in China, has the CNNC-mandated nuclear safety management capability and provides technical support to research programs of the China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA), Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) and to the technical transfer demonstration project of the Ministry of Science and Technology. 
           The CIRP has a total of 1100 staff, including one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and more than 280 senior professionals, and encompasses six research entities, one biological material research and development center, three science and technology industry companies and other related functional and managerial branches. Also incluced are CNNC’s Key Radiation Protection Technical Laboratory, Nuclear Environment Simulation and Assessment Technology Key Laboratory, Key Laboratory for Deep Geological Disposal of High-level Radioactive Waste,  Nuclear Facility Decommissioning and Radioactive Waste Treatment Center (MEP), State  Environmental Protection Key Laboratory of Environment and Health (Taiyuan). Additionally, the CIPP is mandated by the CNNC to undertake the management of six research and technology service centers, such as Radiation Instrument Calibration Center, Personal Dose Management and Service Center, Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Center, Training Center on Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety, Nuclear Emergency Technical Support Center and Occupational Disease Registration and Service Center.  
             The CIRP is mainly engaged in the research, development and application in aspects of radiation protection, nuclear emergency and safety, radiological medicine and environmental medicine, nuclear environmental science, radioactive waste management and nuclear facility decommissioning, irradiation technology, environmental protection technology, nuclear electronic information technology, biological material technology, diagnosis and treatment of occupational disease and also provides technical support to national functional departments with respect to radiation protection and nuclear safety. The CIRP offers Master’s degree programs in the fields of radiation protection and environmental protection, environmental science, radiological medicine, labor health and environmental hygiene. The technical cooperation and exchange are established with a number of international organizations such as IAEA, ICRP, UNSCEAR and WHO as well as more than 40 countries including United States, Japan and France etc.
             Up to now, the CIRP has achieved more than 6270 accomplishments, including three national special awards, more than 520 provincial- and ministerial-level scientific progress awards, with more than 152 patents obtained. To a varying extent, prominent contributions have been made to China’s expansion of the nuclear industry.
           At present, the cultural spirit of “trust, dedication, reality and innovation” and the conceptual ideology of “openness, inclusiveness,  and win-win cooperation” are upheld among the CIRP staff. The development policy of raising research level, broadening service scope, optimizing industry structure and refining management capability is being abided by to carry out the research and development activities of science and technology in the fields of nuclear power, nuclear fuel cycle, nuclear technology application. Efforts are focused on building, by 2020, the research and development base in respect to radiation protection technology, which is comparable with China’s large-sized civil nuclear industry.
